Homeward

Originally called “Riding” (because the main guitar line reminded me of a horse leisurely clip-clopping away), it really is more about a yearning for a long lost home, making “Homeward” a better title.

This song was also written in England, Sussex (where I lived on and off for five years). It began with the riding guitar motion which then looked for and found the words to fit.

The Words:

Free as a wind in my mind
and the sky that I find
in the laughter I hear
brings a new morning

Blue with the velvet of night
is the sight I let go
as I open my eyes
on this bright dawning

Yet, every step I take
is but another step away
and I wonder what to make
of most of what I see
throughout my day
throughout my day

Here among these distant lands I roam
over far and wide
and in and out of shadow
For all the light upon the road I chose
Still, in all

Oh, that I were home
Oh, that I were home
Oh, that I were home

Stars are the guides that I see
as I sail on my own
for my destiny
‘cross this dark ocean

But truth is the star I pursue
in a world that seems real
when I want it to
where I knew loving

Yet, every tack I take
is but another tack away
and I wonder what to make
of all these dreams I chase
throughout my day
throughout my day

led by voices
‘long the way
faintly calling
as I pray

Oh, that I were home
Oh, that I were home
Oh, that I were home
